What a weekend!
I pulled on my favourite vintage boots, adjusted my corset (remember – boots before corset) and grabbed my trusty camera, hoping I would get time to take some photos of the trains and the costumes. Off we went. (A word of advice: bustles make a long drive very uncomfortable for the back.)
Armed with my stall paraphernalia, steampunk accouterments and the lone proof copy of my book, I steeled myself for an interesting day. It was my very first book launch – and I had no books. They had only just passed through customs the day before and were currently stuck on a dock (or tarmac) somewhere in Melbourne. So close, yet so far. Bugga. Not a very auspicious beginning to my writing career.
I need not have fretted. The cover was a big hit, enticing many to pick it up, read the blurb and even flip through the pages. Exactly what a book cover should do. Success! On Saturday I sold out of my (soon to arrive) book order and took a dozen orders for more books, on the Sunday. The order should be here in three to four weeks. Thank you to you all for having faith in me.
Everyone who bought a book went into a raffle for one of my mugs. Congratulations to Sue and Kristian on their win.
I met many friendly people, enjoyed engaging chats and even managed to take some photos. On Sunday we were entertained by the band, Ukele Circus. (It is scary to think I remember the words to most of those songs!)
Thanks to the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide for allowing me to have my book launch at this year’s Steampunk Festival. (The guys and gals down there are helpful and friendly.)
Thanks also to Catherine Curl of Geeky Keys Art Studio for these photos of my book signing. There were a lot more people listening in than I had thought. Eep.
Enough of me… Pretty pictures await!
