Did you know I have an Indie Publishing Imprint?

Did you know I have a publishing website (for my books and book merch)?

When I started writing, I registered as a sole trader, and got an ABN, to comply with Australian tax requirements (as my writing wasn’t just a hobby) and allow me to buy ISBNs. I’d decided early on to use ISBN registered to me (in most cases). For this, I needed an ABN.

While some indie authors sell their books only under their own name, I felt it looked more professional (and easier if I later tried for traditional publishing) to publish my books under an indie publishing imprint/business name. I chose Kraken Publishing – because I love octopuses and cephalopods. I really wanted Kraken Ink, which was available when I did reserach (when I first started writing). Unfortunately, years later when I actually got around to registering a business name, it was taken. (arrrrrgggggghhhh).

So Kraken Publishing, it was. Such is life.
(I also registered Kraken Creations for my art, photography etc.)

I’d love to take full credit for the byline: Books that grab you, but my Dearheart first coined it as a joke. I loved it, so it stuck and is one of the few things that survied the website revamp.

I’ve had a Kraken Publishing website for some time now, but I haven’t really promoted or shared it much. Last year, I spruced it up with a new look. This week, I updated it. (I’ve promised myself I’ll keep it updated, at least with events and major changes.)

I’ve also had this social media promo sitting in my ‘to finish’ folder for a few years. Finally I finished it and it’s being shared on my social media. https://youtube.com/shorts/DS0RvjV9I_I
